Record subgroup for the ALPLM Manuscripts Department for collections and vertical files. Small collections include personal and family papers, corporate records, county records, and military records. Vertical files include small collections of unknown or varied provenance used predominantly as ready reference files, documenting Illinois counties and cities, individuals, businesses, organizations, and events.

Scope and Contents Recollection written at Mattoon, Illinois describing his experiences at Belle Isle and the trip to Andersonville, the food they were given, treatment by guards, his experience in the hospital with scurvy and the circumstances of the exchange.

Scope and Contents Memoir of his time spent in these prisons, describes the prisons' physical characteristics, their rules, the differences in rules and treatment of the prisoners, and the psychological coping methods of the prisoners. Describes incidents of efforts to avoid starvation or freezing. Describes the prisoners who came in from Bell Isle and the death rate among them. Discusses the illness, specifically scurvy, rampant among the men and the prison hospitals. Gives some incidences of torture and murder....
