Record subgroup for the ALPLM Manuscripts Department for collections and vertical files. Small collections include personal and family papers, corporate records, county records, and military records. Vertical files include small collections of unknown or varied provenance used predominantly as ready reference files, documenting Illinois counties and cities, individuals, businesses, organizations, and events.

Collection — Box 67
Scope and Contents Letter, March 8, 1842, from Darius in Aurora to William Plumb in Vermont, discusses the canal being built, his temperance stand and allegiance to the Whigs, the beauty and fertility of the land around Aurora and a brief description of the town. Two letters from Stephen Eames, 1864 and 1872, and one from Rhoda E. Boyd, 1864 to Plumb family members discuss family matters.

Scope and Contents Journal describes experiences along the way. Vividly describes several bouts of seasickness among the passengers during rough waters, the passengers and their different nationalities, several tales of drunkenness among various passengers and workers and the boat trying to pass through thick ice near Mackinack and being forced to remain there due to ice.
