Record subgroup for the ALPLM Manuscripts Department for collections and vertical files. Small collections include personal and family papers, corporate records, county records, and military records. Vertical files include small collections of unknown or varied provenance used predominantly as ready reference files, documenting Illinois counties and cities, individuals, businesses, organizations, and events.

Scope and Contents Letter written to Henry Yates from Fort Henry, Tennessee. Describes traveling per ship to Fort Henry, marching through the mud, witnessing the dead killed by the shelling from their boat and coming into Fort Henry.

Scope and Contents One letter gives a list of resolutions he believes the Park County girls should abide by and include "tender services as clerks, mechanics and tillers of the soil" while the men are serving, and "withhold friendship and love from every able bodied young man who will not enlist". He gives his account of the battles at Fort Henry and Donelson, Pittsburgh Landing and Corinth.
