Record subgroup for the ALPLM Manuscripts Department for collections and vertical files. Small collections include personal and family papers, corporate records, county records, and military records. Vertical files include small collections of unknown or varied provenance used predominantly as ready reference files, documenting Illinois counties and cities, individuals, businesses, organizations, and events.

Scope and Contents Letter tells that school house will be completed in Herndon, Ill. in October and she wishes her cousin would "come west" and teach at the school. Also describes Republican "mass meeting" she and her father attended in Springfield, Illinois with "ten thousand" attending.

Overview The Morganian Society was an anti-slavery organization created by residents of Morgan County, Illinois in or around 1823. The Society was probably founded in response to a call for an election to be held in 1824 which would allow Illinoisians to revise the state constitution, which might have allowed Illinois to permit slavery.
