John M. Palmer papers

Scope and Contents Two documents signed by Governor Palmer appointing notary publics. One in 1870 for Samuel Briley of Union County. One in 1871 for John Loomis of Jacksonville, Illinois. A 1869 invitation from the United Fellows and Kindred Societies of Freedmen asking him to address the Society on New Years day 1870 in Chicago. Signed by members of the Committee of Arrangements and numerous other members of the Society. Henry May was chairman of the Committee.

John McAuley Palmer papers

Scope and Contents Fifteen legal documents written and signed by Palmer. One 1858 letter to Sam Willard discussing "Douglas" and politics. One Special Order, Sept. 3, 1862 given by Palmer. Fourteen telegrams, Oct.-Nov. 1872 re: politics from Gustave Koerner, George W. Shutt, Ozias Hatch and others. Ten appointments signed by Palmer while serving as governor. 1874 construction deed between Palmer, Morris Ketchum and William Ackerman as trustees of the Illinois Central Railroad and Ira Engart of Coles County.
