Frederick S. Mojonnier diary of a voyage to America

Scope and Contents Typed transcript of diary kept by Mojonnier on the family's trip. Briefly details each day of their trip by stage, sleigh and train to Havre, France where they spent several days before sailing. On board ship he details the weather, any family problems, passenger problems, sea life they observe, a ship wreck and their entrance into the Mississippi with the help of a tug boat. He describes the boat they take to St. Louis and the sights he sees along the way.

Samuel Humes Porter letter

Scope and Contents Letter to New York Governor Horatio Seymour regarding the support for McClellan shown among Democrats at the convention, the dissatisfaction in the Mississippi valley towards Lincoln and his policies and the fallacious story that General Cass is supporting Lincoln. Asks for acknowledgement of the letter because "Lincoln's postmasters ... sometimes looking into other people's letters."

Samuel Miller journals

Scope and Contents An account of each trip to retrieve the body of each of his sons. He travelled by boat, the first trip on rivers and the second by ocean, most of the way and mentions the boats they pass, the cities where they stop, the countryside, farms and plantations, the effects of war on all of these, problems along the way, weather, what he eats, a shooting at one hotel, the return trip and the burial of his sons.
