Record subgroup for the ALPLM Manuscripts Department for collections and vertical files. Small collections include personal and family papers, corporate records, county records, and military records. Vertical files include small collections of unknown or varied provenance used predominantly as ready reference files, documenting Illinois counties and cities, individuals, businesses, organizations, and events.

Scope and Contents Diploma from Edinburgh College of Medicine, 1785. Three small cards from the school with Potts name written in, 1785, 1786. License to practice medicine in Illinois, 1825, signed by John Todd, President of the Board of Censors and others.

Scope and Contents 3 diaries (1864, 1865, 1866); official correspondence (1862-1876); family photos (189-?). The 1864 and 1865 diaries contain detailed accounts of the activities of Norton and the troops he served, observations of camp life, and news from home. Also in the 1864 diary: expenditures, inventories, and patient morbidity and mortality statistics. Scope and Contents Manuscript of article written about Belle Reynolds' service during the Civil War and her commission given by Governor Yates of Illinois. Also briefly describes her work as a physician after the war in Chicago, California and the Philippines. A signed note by Belle Reynolds telling who Mr. Morris is and that he had written her re: the article which appeared in an Omaha newspaper. Also a short note by Thomas C. Shelley who had served in the 17th Infantry with Mr. Reynolds re: Belle's later life.

Scope and Contents Typescript of Mason's diary. Very descriptive of the cities and countryside that he passes through. Gives descriptions of the buildings, dwellings, inhabitants and their animals, their diets and their general personality. Discusses differences in social and cultural attributes of those he meets.
