The Cyrus Root papers include letters written between 1862 and 1865 by Cyrus Root to his sister, Sarah Lovina Root, in Peoria, Illinois. The letters give an account of Rootâs war experiences including camp life, health, regimental movements, and battles participated in. The collection also includes supplementary documentation concerning the 86th Illinois and the genealogical history of the Root Family.

Abstract
Cyrus Root was born in Peoria, Illinois, and served in the 86th Illinois Infantry during the American Civil War. This collection consists of correspondence between Root and his sister, documents concerning the 86th Illinois Infantry, and a genealogical history of the Root family.
