Biographical / Historical
Thomas Scott Mather (1829-1890) was a Connecticut-born soldier, who served as Illinois's state Adjutant General prior to the Civil War. During the war, he served with the 2nd Illinois Volunteer Artillery and served as Chief of Staff to Major General John McClernand. He was breveted Brigadier General in 1865.
