Scope and Contents

Ten letters written to his parents while serving in the army discuss personal business, friends who are also serving, news of the war, and family news. One letter, Aug. 22, 1856, discusses graphically the embattled atmosphere in Kansas, "dead mens bodys all over the prerie", mentioning the actions of both abolitionists and the pro-slavery.

Biographical / Historical

From Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and served in the 3rd Kentucky Infantry as Lieutenant and promoted to Captain. Spent most of his service in Tennessee. Was in Parkville, Kansas in 1856.
