Letter to H.E. Barker of Springfield, Ill. re: a daguerreotype of Stephen A. Douglas that was given to his grandfather. Douglas had obtained an appointment as postmaster of Jerseyville for Perley after he left the sheriff's office. He later owned a tavern at Jerseyville called the Old National, at which time the picture was taken.
