Scope and Contents
Copy of Springer's letter, 1874, to the editor of the Illinois Register refuting allegations that Larkin G. Mead did not design and construct the Lincoln monument at Springfield. Two letters to McClernand, Oct. 24 and Dec.26, 1888 discuss a request for a West Point appointment and Mexican affairs. Four Letters to Charles A. Keyes, Jan. 6, March 8, May 22, and June 21, 1888 discuss his efforts to obtain a territorial judgeship for Keyes. Letter, Nov. 1891, to Ashbel P. Fitch in New York re: a dinner invitation.

Biographical / Historical
Born in Indiana in 1836, practiced law first in Lincoln, Ill. and then moved to Springfield in 1861 where he went into partnership with John McClernand and Robert B. Latham. Served as a Democrat in the Illinois Legislature 1871-1872 and the U.S. House of Representatives, 1875-1895. Died in 1903.
