Identifier: BC356

Family historian and genealogist from Springfield, Illinois. The Irwin family’s roots are in Chester County, Pennsylvania. In 1857, Jared P. Irwin (Arthur’s grandfather) moved his family to Springfield, where he and his son, Lafayette L. (Arthur’s father), were sons and building contractors. Arthur died in Springfield on January 14, 1992.

Genealogy of the Irwin and related families of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and Springfield, Illinois, including transcripts, original manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, clippings, notes, and other research materials collected during compilation of the genealogy. Includes substantial research on the Darlington, Matlack, Laverty, Trego, Hays & Whipple families, and on the Seceder cemetery in Chester County. Also mentioned are the Greenhalgh, Lettarst, Ash, & Foulkrod families. Of special interest are a family tree, Bible page, diaries (transcripts) & other papers of Jared P. Irwin, and transcript of bricklayer Lafayette L. Irwin’s diary & business ledger. Photographs show family reunions, homesteads and tombstones.

Two books were transferred to the Published Materials section.
