Printed Corporate Security Instruments

Identifier: MS-SC4002

A collection of corporate securities, such as stock and bond certificates, for a variety of nineteenth and twentieth century companies. The collection was assembled by an unknown document collector through the 1970s.

Most of the certificates are railroad stock, but the collection also includes securities for construction and mining companies, banks and insurance companies, or companies dealing in other types of transportation, such as ferries and turnpikes. Materials date roughly between the 1840s and the 1910s, although some are undated. The certificates primarily originate from companies found in the United States, broken up by the state of origin, but the collection also contains a small number of certificates from other countries, including Canada, Mexico, South Africa, and Russia. Most of the materials are unsigned or cancelled securities.
