Biographical / Historical
George E. Adams (1840-1917) moved to Chicago, IL in 1853 and later attended Harvard University (1860). During the American Civil War he enlisted in the 1st Illinois Light Artillery Regiment. He later earned his law degree, practiced law in Chicago and entered politics. A Republican, Adams was an Illinois State Senator (1880-1883) and represented his Chicago district in the U.S. House of Representatives (1883-1891).
