Biographical / Historical
James Adams (1783-1843) was born in Connecticut and served as an officer in the New York militia during the War of 1812. He subsequently moved to Sangamon County, IL in 1821 and won election as Justice of the Peace at Springfield, IL in 1823. He served as Probate Justice of the Peace and Probate Judge of Sangamon County, 1825-1843.
