Family correspondence written to Adeline Akerly (1834-1916), including 12 Civil War letters from her brother Ashley H. Alexander of the 12th Illinois Cavalry, Co. A. Ashley Alexander's letters describe life at Camp Butler, Springfield, Illinois and include brief descriptions of the engagement at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; as well as the battles of Antietam and Fredericksburg.
