Biographical / Historical

William J. Allen (1828-1901) was born in Tennessee and moved to Illinois with his family in 1830. He was a laywer and jurist based at Marion and Springfield, IL. He served in a number of offices in cluding: the Illinois House of Representatives, 1855-1856; United States District Attorney, 1856-1859; United States House of Representatives, 1862-1865; and United States District Court Judge, 1887-1901.
