Biographical / Historical
Willis Allen (1806-1859) was born and educated in Virginia. He lived in Tennessee before establishing a farm in Williamson County, IL in 1830. He subsequently became a lawyer, won election as county sheriff, served in the Illinois House of Representatives (1838-1840), and the Illinois State Senate (1844-1847). He also won election as a Democrat to the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses (1851-1855). After Congress he returned to the practice of law and briefly, before his death, served as an Illinois circuit judge.
