Scope and Contents

Siblings Elbridge (b. 1835), Bradley V. (1838-1863), and Alice M. Atwood (b. 1841) were born in New York. In 1860 Elbridge lived in Springfield, Illinois, where he worked as a laborer. In 1861 Bradley lived in Athens, Illinois, where he volunteered to serve in the 10th Illinois Cavalry, Company A, during the American Civil War. In 1860 Alice lived in Jackson, Michigan.

Consists of letters written by Elbridge and Bradley Atwood to their sibling Alice Atwood, describing Springfield, Illinois, at the time of Abraham Lincoln's nomination for president and at the time of his funeral. An 1862 letter from Bradley concerns Camp Benton, Missouri.
