Scope and Contents
The collection includes correspondence, diary, history, reports, genealogical report, newspaper clippings, orders, circulars, muster rolls, inventories, and ordnance records. Correspondence consists mainly of that with other officers and is army related. Some letters written to his wife during this time discuss the war and home matters. Diary for 1864. A typed history of the 112th Illinois Infantry and a report of the Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee battles. A typed Henderson genealogy and a biography of John W. Henderson. News clippings concerning his term in the United States House of Representatives. A large number of hand written orders that pertain to all facets of troop activity including requisitions for guns, ammunition, and supplies, sick leave, transfers, division movements, dress, and marching. War department circulars. Records related to deserters, casualties, disabled and deceased.

Abstract
Thomas Jefferson Henderson was a Colonel of the 112th Illinois Infantry, brevetted Brigadier General in 1865 by Abraham Lincoln, and served as a Republican in the Illinois legislature and the U.S. Congress. The collection includes correspondence, diary, history, reports, genealogical report, newspaper clippings, orders, circulars, muster rolls, inventories, and ordnance records.
Arrangement Note
The Collection is divided into two series. Series 1, Thomas J. Henderson I, contains correspondence, diary from 1864, unpublished papers, miscellaneous papers, and two scrapbooks. Series 2, Thomas J. Henderson II, includes correspondence and papers, certificates, reports and proceedings of meetings, general orders, special orders, regimental orders, circulars, muster rolls, military reports, list of transfers to Veteran Reserve Corps, list of deserters, certificates of disability for absent officers, returns of alterations and casualties, registers of volunteers, quarterly returns of deceased soldiers, final statements of deceased soldiers, inventories of effects of deceased soldiers, and ordnance records.
