Overview
Frank L. Barnhisel (1844-1934) was born in Vienna, Trumbull County, Ohio, and later moved to Illinois. During the American Civil War, while a resident of Coldbrook, Warren County, Barnhisel enlisted as a private in Company D, 102nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry regiment. He served 1862-1865, and mustered out as a corporal. Barnhisel later moved to Wichita, Kansas.

Collection consists of one partially printed document dated September 14, 1862. It notes provisions for one day for 87 members of the 102nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company A, posted at Camp McMurtry, Knoxville, IL. It is signed for Company A by Lieutenant Levi F. Gentry and by regimental commander Colonel William McMurtry.
