Lincoln author, farmer, investor and banker, Henry Bascom Rankin, was the son of Amberry and Arminda Rogers Rankin. He studied law in the office of Abraham Lincoln and William Herndon, Springfield, Illinois, from 1856 to 1861, and came to know Abraham Lincoln.
Born in Athens, Illinois, Rankin lived in Petersburg, Jacksonville, and Springfield, Illinois. He married Alma Hurd in 1864, and they were the parents of Fred H., Albert H. and Emma (Mrs. Clayton J. Barber) Rankin.
