Abstract Anna Risse worked in the Illinois governor's office from the 1930s to the 1970s, serving as stenographer or secretary for governors Louis Emmerson, Henry Horner, Dwight Green, and Adlai Stevenson II. The collection contains letters and greeting cards written to and from Risse, many of them from Ambassador William Blair and Governor Stevenson. The collection also contains newspaper clippings and photographs.

Scope and Contents Seven letters to Frank E. Stevens regarding Lincoln and the Black Hawk War. Discussing the route that Lincoln's company traveled and asking Stevenson's help in clarifying. Several references to Governor Emmerson and George Dixon, president of the Illinois Historical Society, and his mishandling of the "Commission". One letter from Charles G. Davis with notes on changes for Oakleaf's manuscript. Two letters to Stevens from Joseph L. Oakleaf after his father's death re: the manuscript.
