Abstract Gerry Allard (1908-1965) was a coal miner, union activist, socialist, writer, and businessman. Born in France, his family emigrated to Illinois in 1912. His papers consist of newspaper clippings, correspondence, printed material, and scrapbooks. Some material is photocopies only. Topics include labor unionism, the Progressive Mine Workers of America, Socialist Party activities, and coal mining in Illinois. Copies of The Fighting Miner are also included.

Abstract The Rogers Family were early settlers of the town of Athens in Menard County, Illinois, and became prominent citizens of the community. Matthew Rogers came from New York in 1821 with his wife and children. He was postmaster of the town's first post office, and served as justice of the peace.
