Scope and Contents Letter to James C. Burns in Monmouth from Burr Oak, Michigan, where she is visiting her sister, recounts briefly her life history and her years teaching in Monmouth. Discusses the school's curriculum, what she taught, some of the other teachers and the problem with boys smoking, with which she dealt effectively. Also discusses her temperance work and states that in 1872 there were "sixteen saloons" of which they eliminated all but one.
