Abstract On September 17, 1880 Mrs. Anna Tressler Scott made a motion at the meeting of the Woman’s Christian Working Association of Ottawa, Illinois Presbyterian Church to create an autograph album for the wife of the president of the United States, to show their appreciation of her position on Temperance. The album was to be covered with silk and embossed with needlework. The project grew so rapidly that Mrs. Scott and the others involved had to enlist the help of friends in Chicago including Mrs....

Abstract Organization dedicated to meeting the philanthropic, social and intellectual needs of the women of Springfield, Illinois. Founded May 26, 1894, as Springfield Woman’s Club. Incorporated March 1927 as The Woman’s Club of Springfield. Collection contains minutes, annual reports, financial records and scrapbooks reflecting the operations and activities of the club. Approximately one linear foot of published material and 119 lantern slides have been transferred out of the collection.
