Typed transcript of diary kept during the last months of the war discusses travels through Mississippi and back to Tennessee where they remain for the duration of the war, his activities and those of his company. Mentions numerous others in the regiment giving tidbits of information about them. After the war talks of work done with Lieutenant Clad to finish up the work of the regiment. Speaks of his wife and family often.

Scope and Contents
Letters to Harmon T. Gallup in Michigan. Letter, 1853, describes torrential rainfalls, snow fall "12 or 15 feet" that killed men, animals and caved in houses, and an avalanche. Gives the prices of provisions. Describes the living conditions of many of the miners. Describes California as the "rufist place of all" with "drinking gambling charousing cheeting cussing and swaring lying they say Sunday never got any farther than Acapulco". Letter, 1854, gives a description of sluice mining.
