Describes his trip back and the quality of land along the way. Describes the fertility of his land in Illinois and its superiority to Vermont. Mentions problems with the British Fur Company in Oregon Territory and the Russians in the west. Also discusses talking with [Thomas J.] Farnham re: his expedition to California.
